3 Common Compliance Mistakes

& 3 Ps: People, Principles and Policies

1. “We have a policy, so we’re compliant.”
A document on its own does not make an effective compliance system.

2. “We’ll deal with it if a problem arises.”
One of the greatest benefits of compliance is prevention.

3. “Compliance is the compliance officer’s responsibility.”
Compliance is not the responsibility of just one person. Leaders, managers and employees all have a role to play.

A strong compliance culture develops when compliance is part of everyday operations, rather than a separate task.

That is why I see compliance not primarily as a control function, rather modus operandi, a consious way of running an organisation thoughtfully and responsibly.

For me, compliance is not primarily a control function. It is a way of working built on three Ps: People, Principles and Policies - a conscious approach to running an organisation thoughtfully and responsibly.
